Kade spent the night after their loss unable and unwilling to sleep. Each time he dozed, horrifying moments from the game would invade his dreams.
He feels like he let down his neighborhood, school, and the entire County. The hoop star and hood legend will have only one more year to bring home the state championship.
Amber is off to Myrtle Beach with her family for an entire week. This will be the first time he hasn’t spent some part of the day with her since they became official nearly six months ago.
Reverend Johnson, Amber’s father, refuses to allow Kade to accompany them on the trip.
“That drug dealing hoodlum isn’t welcomed,” the minister proclaims.
He is feeling especially lonely and abandoned so he takes Courtney up on her offer to spend the day with her before she too is off to Myrtle Beach with her family.
The high school friends meet up at a spot right off Ledbetter Road the natives named The Old Stomping Grounds. It’s a secluded spot in the woods where you could pull a car or two and park. The Hood’s version of Lover’s Lane.
