You may be new to Medium but it's obvious you are not new to writing. So far as keeping a reader's attention it can be a crap shoot. I've recently switched over from writing exclusive Erotica to Marketing. The headline and first sentence are the hooks that can capture your readers attention for the all important 30 seconds.
