As the last seconds tick off the clock, there is no greater thrill in sports than holding the basketball and tossing it to the rafters, signifying victory.

Then, what has become a rite of passage for American college students: storming the court after an unlikely win against a legendary basketball program.

I’m the last man leaving the locker room. I wanted to savor the last drops of victory. I begin the long, dark, lonely walk exiting the tunnel that leads outside Littlejohn Coliseum.

At the end of the tunnel, I spy a shadowy figure, a woman’s silhouette.

I hear my friend.

“Hurry, slowpoke.” She says.

She comes from the shadows. Taylor is a beautiful sight for the sore eyes of a warrior. Taylor is among the first students I met when I registered for classes many moons ago.

She introduced Tessa and me. We have remained friends through the years, and our relationship has been purely platonic. It’s been nearly two years since I laid eyes on her gorgeous face.

“Hey, Boo, what are you doing here?” I asked.

“I’m here to take you to heaven.” She replies.

I chuckle.
