Kade is a high school hoop star and hood legend from a small rural town. The story begins in the middle of a discussion with his best friend about a basketball rival in a nearby city. Little did he know that by taking a trip to the Playground to scope out a competitor, he would find an Angel.
“That dude Cornbread is no joke,” Bubba says.
“What does he do that’s so great?”
“I’m not sure, but everyone’s saying he’s the one to challenge your throne.”
“What does he look like? Is he tall, fast, a great shooter or ball-handler?”
“I don’t know.”
“Where did he come from?” I ask.
“I’m not sure, maybe up north somewhere.”
“Got Damn man, you sure don’t know shit about a motherfucker supposed to dethrone your boy.”
“Well, you know where to find any real hooper from Forest City,” Bubba replies.
We plan to make the trip to the Dunbar Playground in nearby Forest City. It’s the place where all real ballers dwell on a late Sunday afternoon. Our chance to see firsthand the deal with Cornbread.
